A few years ago, we attended the
1st River City, MS trial. Was a beautiful trial and we had the
opportunity to make some new friends. Up until this trial we had
been concentrating on the performance aspects of the JRTCA trials;
racing, GTG, lure coursing & super earth. During this trial we had
the opportunity to talk with Linda Lujan of Fox's Folly Terriers in
TX. Linda's great little bitch "Boomer" beat Dash at the 2003
nationals. She told us of a litter that Boomer had, she mentioned
that one of the males was feisty like Boomer but was also "had that
look". Five weeks later Chase made the cross country trek in a truck
with Linda's son. We met them and out popped a little guy with a big
head! Little did we know how much patients he would teach us, he was very "pray" focused! Chase was loving & inquisitive- he loved to sleep in warm clothing lying in the dryer. He was pray focused. Chase loved racing & trying to keep up with Dash. At the KY trail a few months later, Linda suggested we put him in conformation. He had never been on a conformation lead but Linda gave it a go. He placed 4th in his first conformation class and hardly walked at all.....it was more of a bunny hop! Chase became my conformation challenge ( he is after all a stubborn Texan) but also we learned together. Chase then went onto puppy racing at the JRTCA US National trial that year and as he grew he earned multiple puppy racing championships as well as reserve championships in conformation. Chase has a beautiful head and a tight harsh broken coat. Chase is always giving 110% and always willing to please. As Chase grew older we learned yet another valuable lesson......there can only be one ALPHA dog in our pack, that being Dash. Even alternating times outside and special time just with me, Chase was unhappy and a fight to the finish was looming. I just could not let that happen. In December of 2005 at the Yuletide trial we had met a wonderful couple- Charles & Sally Hickey of VA. They had recently loved and lost a male terrier and Chase reminded them of their precious Oliver & so with a heavy heart I said goodbye to my little "Chase-a-roonie". Chase moved to VA and immediately fell in love with the whole James River gang. Sometimes the best and most loving decisions are the most difficult. I will forever be greatful to Charles & Sally for loving Chase as I do. Stud rights have been retained on Chase. |
