Dashman of Tally Hills

Although Dash wasn't our first jack russell terrier, there wouldn't be Tally Hills Terriers today without Dash. He is "Once in a lifetime dog". He was our 2nd jack russell terrier and the 2nd we rescued. Dash formerly known as Melvin was a 6 month old puppy who had been passed around. He just hadn't found his home but he did know how to chase and catch cats. He was to be euthanized the day after my son told me about him.

I had already attended my first trial with little prick eared Dixie when I went to the vets to see Dash. When I walked over to his kennel run, he began to jump up and down. But when I stood in front of him, he calmed down, and sat quietly and pleaded with those soft eyes "take me home, I belong to you" and that's exactly what I did. Dash had found his meaning in life. The next month he attended his first trial where he raced & was Puppy Racing Champion.

From that trial on, he never looked back. The first year was rocky, he had a heavy load of hookworms that kept hatching out but despite that and some other medical problems, he has pushed on to win multiple racing & GTG competitions.

In 2003 he was the JRTCA US National Reserve Under Adult Racing Champion and that next year he repeated that and was the 2004 JRTCA US National Reserve Under Adult Racing Champion. Just weeks before the 2005 JRTCA US Nationals, Dash broke a small bone on his toe and shattered a toenail. I didn't think he could race but once again Dash showed us how to reach down deeply inside yourself and pulled out that passion & desire to overcome anything. Not only did he race that rainy day, he  claimed the Under Adult Racing Championship. If that was not good enough, he turned right around and won the stakes race, his first National Championship......an incredible day!

Dash has taught me the meaning of love, determination and bravery. I will forever be grateful to a little dog with a huge heart. Dash started us on a journey  and now 8 terriers later, we are still learning.
